One of the most common questions we receive from prospective clients is why we require at least one visit every day when caring for cats.
It's a fair question. Cats have earned a reputation for being low-maintenance pets. Unlike dogs, they don't need walks, and many seem perfectly content spending time alone. But while cats may be independent, they are not self-sufficient.
Daily visits are one of the most important ways to protect your cat's health, safety, and comfort while you're away.
Cats Are Masters at Hiding Illness
One of the unique challenges of caring for cats is that they are incredibly skilled at concealing signs of pain, illness or injury.
A cat can appear perfectly normal one day and be experiencing a medical emergency the next. Issues such as urinary blockages, vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory problems, injuries, or sudden changes in appetite can develop quickly.
When someone is checking on your cat every day, there is a much greater chance that these changes will be noticed early, and action can be taken before the situation becomes serious.
Food and Water Problems Happen More Often Than You Think
Many owners assume that leaving extra food and water is enough.
However, we regularly see situations where:
Water bowls are knocked over.
Automatic water fountains stop working.
Automatic feeders malfunction.
Food is spilled or becomes inaccessible.
Curious cats get into things they shouldn't.
Food left out has attracted ants or other insects.
A daily visit ensures that your cat has access to fresh food and water and that everything in their environment is functioning properly.
Litter Boxes Need Daily Attention
Cats are naturally clean animals and can become stressed when their litter box isn't maintained.
Daily scooping helps:
Keep your cat comfortable.
Reduce inappropriate elimination outside the litter box.
Monitor bathroom habits for signs of health concerns.
Maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.
Changes in litter box habits are often one of the earliest indicators that something is wrong with a cat's health.
Cats Need More Than Physical Care
While cats may not demand attention the same way dogs do, many enjoy and benefit from daily interaction.
A familiar visitor can provide:
Affection and companionship.
Play and enrichment.
Mental stimulation.
Routine and consistency.
For many cats, these interactions help reduce stress and make their owner's absence easier.
Emergencies Don't Wait
Even in the safest and most well-prepared homes, unexpected situations can occur.
Power outages, air conditioning failures, plumbing leaks, severe weather, broken windows, and other household emergencies can happen at any time. Cats can also become trapped in closets, basements, garages, or other areas of the home, get tangled in cords or household items, knock over hazardous objects, or experience a sudden illness or injury.
Daily visits ensure that someone is checking not only on your cat, but also on your home. More importantly, they significantly reduce the amount of time your cat may be left without help if an emergency occurs.
Peace of Mind for You
Perhaps the biggest benefit of daily visits is the peace of mind they provide.
Knowing that someone is checking on your cat every day means you don't have to wonder whether your pet is eating, drinking, using the litter box normally, or staying safe.
You can enjoy your trip knowing that if something changes, someone will notice.
Our Policy
Because cats can experience medical issues, environmental hazards, and changes in behavior that develop quickly, we require at least one visit every day while you are away.
Daily visits allow us to provide the level of care, concern, consistency, and attention that cats deserve while giving owners confidence that their beloved pets are safe and comfortable at home.
